      So didnt sell Colin ?

    2. Shane Scott

God dam it, I don't even like em, but im off to autotrader now lol.

    3. ttownscott

I know you're probably biased, but what would be the pros / cons 2001 2.7 Boxster vs 2003 2.5 z4 both base models? both under 100k miles

    4. Red Wolf Racing

You want a laugh, go into the Porsche dealership and ask for a quote on new clutch, flywheel, IMS and cam chain tensioners. ( Mine is a 2000 986S) They don't sell a IMS bearing replacement. £8000 to change the IMS..... Most likely a new short block. the price for the clutch and fly wheel was not to bad. Crazy. Once the maintenance is done it is going to BDS. A note on buying one, try and find an early S. My early S is much cheaper to buy road tax for than a 2001 car and is likely to have the better IMS fitted and no traction control (Talent Compensation). Stock they understeer badly I was disappointed to start with. But fitting H&R up rated anti roll bars (sway bars for the Yanks) transformed the front end. And the way they go from 3rd to the top of 5th gear is enough to deal with a lot of newer cars with higher horse power.

    5. smartmart7

Sorry for all you tarts out there I mean in my humble opinion no

    6. smartmart7

      No

    7. The Vintage Appliance Emporium

Rich is HOT! Couldn't concentrate on the car lol XD

    8. Jeremiah Whitmore

Well, the Boxster isn't going to be cheap any more now.

    9. Ted Cheesman

Too many adds lost interest 🙁

    10. Joe'n Bro

Sorry man but your wrong. Way wrong. BMW Z4 takes you way further for less money

    11. Paul Curran

Great video very insightful! Porsche Rich knows his stuff!

    12. Ian Vallender

I remember when Mike Brewer picked up a boxster for £1,000 on Wheeler Dealers it was a year 2,000 model!

    13. Damian Walsh

look forward to you doing a few mods....

    14. Corzzaful

That was awesome Alex! 100% got me inspired to purchase a boxter and fettle with it. Please let us know how you go upgrading the boxter. Maybe get BDS on and have them chat about the mods to his 3.2 S and what can be done to the 2.7. Keep up this kind of work. Love it! Cheers

    15. Raymond Mumford

      Brought a 987, it's awesome.

    16. Rose Smith

      German cars = garbage 🗑

    17. Jon Follows

Did Ethan buy the Crossfire Cab as he seemed to love it…

    18. benje302

Did you pick anything up in IKEA 🤣🤣🤣

    19. Captain Fartmaster

Sorry but buying a non “S” Boxster is an absolute idiotic advice. Experience and money wise. Who in his right mind would want the most basic slow ass “modern” Porsche there is?? Please don’t be as tight ass as Alex and invest a little more and get a way better car with a Boxster S. I don’t know why having so many subscribers Alex is such a tight ass and buys absolute shit cars. Even it looks way better because it doesn’t have milk bottle tops for wheels.

    20. MrChimpeh

This needs to be a series, do the 300 and the PT Cruiser

    21. Lee Champion

Had a 986 S when it was 6 years old, most poorly built money pit I ever bought......

    22. W M

      question, 986 or 968?

    23. Adam Lewellen

Hell no! Get a car that doesn't require you to know German to use a scan tool.

    24. Masterblack91

      0:46 "...decent boxter for well under 5k pound" in Italy,basic model is 14k € (12k £ / 16,500 $) It's amazing how cheap are cars in UK...

      1. DaysOf Grace

8( I bought a 987 Gen 2 Boxster 2009 49000 miles Basalt Black with black leather/interior, PDK, Sport Chrono, Porsche Sport Exhaust, PASM (electronic dampers), Sport Seats Plus, Bluetooth & sat-nav plate, 19 inch Sport Design alloys, with a two year extended warranty for £21000 in June 2018 from Porsche Centre Cambridge

      2. Jared Garbo

Makes me want to export them.

    25. Lincolnshire Poacher

LOL these cars will never be cheap. Just keep your wallet in the open position on the sideboard.

    26. Dave K

No, a Boxster should never be your next project car unless you can print your own money

    27. jake lami

£5000...Not in Canada anymore that's for sure. Used to be able to get these for well under that all day long but it seems the value has inflated. Surprised it's not the same on your side of the pond.

    28. Isak s

my next project car will be a Volvo amazon wagon

    29. nom chompsky

Shut up about boxsters. Prices are already going up and I want one before they get crazy

    30. MyCars

The ugly gen. An expensive unreliable 2nd hand car. You can get faster reliability for less and without the horrible high cost nazi Porsche badge.

    31. sammy raffel

boxters are ugly compared to other porsche thats why you dont see em much and in countrys like germany they stil cost easily 10-20k

    32. Home Built By Jeff

It is the beginning of the end, now you have ventured over to the dark side :D

    33. Torque of the Devil

I've looked at these in the past as a cheap way into a porsche. I know the IMS issue is probably very hyped but it can be an expensive issue and knowing my luck i'd be one of the few it happens to.

    34. Aaron Kirsch

I sold a rare optioned 986 from 01 just a couple months ago,.. it was mint,. 55,000 miles white with dark blue top, grey alcanterra embossed seats and just perfectly clean and serviced in every way... I got 14,500 ,.. now just 4 months later,. the same car,.. actually not even as nice as that car,.. are now selling for over 20 grand !! and here is the kicker,.. I miss the car so bad ! I have been through a BMW 650 and another vintage convertible,. and had to get rid of both right away,. they where both grossly misrepresented to the point of being fraudulent... so now I have the itch and I can't find anything to replace that mid engine handling and drop top fun!!

    35. Hello Rato

I spent £4K on my Boxster S 3.2L and it’s great. Insurance at 21 just £600 a year. My water pump exploded but it was an easy afternoon jacked up, £60 part and hundreds saved on labour.

    36. K R

not worth it. the engine is fragile

    37. DVSONENL

Either way, 'Shut up' - Vicky Pollard

    38. Shadow

What was the body panel they had ready for it ?

    39. odgie991

Was that £1100 for 23hp increase... fuck me with a wire brush, that's awful.

    40. Bapster Man

The reason they are so cheap is because you have to re- mortgage your house when anything goes wrong, prices for parts and labour are ridiculous.

    41. Mark C.

      3oxster 😅

    42. jama211

Why is the frame rate so low on this one?

    43. Fredrik Svärd

Boxsters, caymans and 996 models will climb in price. Maybe not 300% like the 964 did, but still.

    44. joe kelynack

Keeping making 986 boxster videos please

    45. Edwin Jones Williams

can you do a audi TT mk2 video like this?

    46. datblakboiyall

Please report this video, boxters suck. I definitely think it's a bad car...................................................................................so nobody buys the good ones in my area before me.....

    47. D Lee

Why would you use a torch for the light instead of a flashlight? That seems dangerous.

    48. Richard25000

      No.

    49. Tiyama

      the 3oxter

    50. bmwman1981

You don’t want to as it’s a poor persons Porsche and not a proper Porsche ie 911 and it has Porsche maintenance cost which are expensive even tho it’s a cheap car to buy now

    51. Nasyriq Taib

My dream car when i was at high school

    52. Bob the Mechanic

I wish they were cheap in the US

    53. JP3

ok but what about a 996?

    54. Elopo BaconForPigsQc

Just as i am looking to buy one!

    55. B8zey155

      No, they're crap

    56. bbbf09

Lord -the interior looks plasticky and tacky . That was a premium car 20 years ago? I think the dash on my tweaked Ford puma VCT (same vintage) looked very similar in layout but in fact superior in terms of premium look. I seem to recall it probbaly had similar performance spec as well. Never been a Porsche fan - this din't convine. You didn't get much for your premium price tag did you?

    57. TZB 997

15k for the cheapest here in the proper Europe - UK 2nd hand prices are awesome...because of the right steering wheel (and I mean right-left, not right - wrong)

      1. Speedwelltuning

Proper Europe?? WTF are you talking about?

    58. 6mtzhp

My S2000 skyrocketed in value, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see one of its most direct competitors do the same.

    59. maxxpls

this is funny because i blew my transmission on mine just a few days ago

    60. TezlaByte

Denmark here... Why we dont pick these up? I'll tell ya: I found two in the years close to yours: 2002 3.2 S = £28,700 2005 2.7 = $34,400 Okay, I'll go for an older Boxster then: 1997 2.5 = $18,900

    61. fly bobbie

      Boring, look like a slipper.

    62. captainchaos087

It would be epic if Alex, Jack and Ethan to had their own syndicated automotive television programme.

    63. Ross B

There not but they should be 😭

    64. Munitions

I'm not a Porsche fan and I'm only a part-time Car Throttle follower. But blimey, I want this Porsche dude there for when I buy my next car please!

    65. Jonathan Vos

Cool to see you guys being sponsored by Rocket League! I love the game myself!

    66. JeremyHartson2000

A: they are easy to work on. B: Good thing because nearly everything will break by 200,000k

    67. Dozer 87

hard to think these are 25yrs old i remember them coming out, they have aged well.................. unlike me

    68. J D

Drive a 2005 987, and love it. Has the larger improved IMS, which is lucky on 55 plate. Allot of car for the money, things to check are: RMS oil weeping, IMS gasket can also weep, Exhaust muffler to manifold gaskets, front coolant cross pipes, front suspension struts rust at the top, AC condensers, coffin arm bushes, they get through disks and pads but not crazy expensive if you do them yourself. Coil packs crack, they improved them so worth replacing if you have the originals on. I switched to Millers Nanotech 5w-40 and engine runs quieter/smoother, great oil. Nothing to be afraid of.

    69. Darren Toddington

please do another video like this but with the 300zx

    70. Laurie Olphin

Selling mine for 5k and I really don't want to for a lifetime trip. Gutted Great cars!!

    71. Timothy reynolds

      Dont bother they are shit

    72. jon smith

The letter "U" in the chassis number means the car was built in Finland by Valmet Automotive , Porsche subcontracted some of the Boxster and Cayman manufacturing out as the Stuttgart factory needed extra capacity . The "U" letter means Uusikaupunki , a town in the south west of Finland , they're currently are making some Mercedes A class models there , there is a rumour that the cars from here are better made than the German made ones . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valmet_Automotive

    73. Drew M

The guy who left the card was great lol

    74. David Moore

If your going to home "wrench" a 986 get ready to learn. The engineering is unique and elegant.

    75. Tclans

Just wanted to put it out there, Yes. Is my answer on the question in the title.

    76. Lw.2003 _

It’s an alright car but I am too tall to get in 😂

    77. Baked Belgian Waffle

Pick them up under 5000 pond or 5800 euro ? If i look at "autoscout" ; only one under 5800 euro and you don't want that one....Acording this site there are 1144 boxters for sale , only 17 under 10000 euro .... So under 5800 euro seems a bit optimistic. And what about roadtax and insurance (not cheap) , don't forget in most countries they punish owners of old cars.....

    78. Markie Smith

Also control module underseat needs replacing and new one reprogramming by a Porsche dealer - HAVE YOU ANY IDEA WHAT THAT WILL COST YOU!? parts bad enough but LABOUR! Suddenly a £5000 car doesn't look like a bargain.. TIME TO SELL YOUR HOUSE! 🤣😂

    79. Markie Smith

There's a true saying - buy a £5000 Boxster and spend another £4000 putting it right... and having Porsche main dealers fix it? Might as well take out a loan for £20000 and dump it on their desk saying "Help yourself boys!!!" 🤣😂

    80. alexander ellis

      Get some new shorts mate

    81. Potato Arms

Kinda cool seeing the knowledge of someone in press for a company. Car companies seem to actually care who works for them, which also makes a good image. Wish other big companies worked this way.

    82. Tim Kramer

Quick PSA to all ROfor channels making "buy these cars while they're cheap" videos...please STOP. I know you make good money from these types of videos but you guys are seriously destroying the used car market for young enthusiasts. If you love cars you most likely already know what good cars are still cheap. Let's keep them cheap. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

    83. Madern

      £1100 for 25bhp? Lol

    84. Richard

Brought one sprayed it satin black , cheap motor gave it to my daughter she loves it ,great cars I paid 2 grand as paint was scratced and had paint remover on it ,only got 42 thousand 😂

    85. Edd Kh

Paint difference ? The bonnet and front bumper is a different shade on all boxsters ?

    86. Craig Forbes

Boxsters are now cheaper than Miatas.

    87. Senator Chinchilla

As a former X-Type owner I can confirm his Miata V6 is Porsche derived. Not biased.

    88. SUK HWANG

I do have one, and this is no longer cheap lol

    89. CarGuy87

Expensive repairs, low horsepower, meh we have one in my family and I'm not impressed.

      1. DaysOf Grace

Porsche were never about horsepower. The Italians had that sewn up, it's about feel and agility. I have BMW 335d X-drive (rear-biased AWD) remapped to 400BHP and 500 lb-ft. It doesn't have the agility and feel of the Boxster.

    90. VinNumber

Saab turbo project car :) B204/B234 or B205/B235 (2.0 and 2.3 petrol engines from 9-5 first gen and 9-3 first gen and 900 last gen) very cheap, very good engine (although the car is not the sportiest, it is a cruiser

    91. Joe Scho

What happened to the £100 Mr2 track car???

    92. Dr_Dolittle

I worked in a porsche specialist garage for 1 year & have seen about 5 engines that has had either IMS bearing fail or the IMS chainring being worn bent or faulty, so I think it is a common problem. I actually bought a 2.5 Boxster with a broken engine, it was cheaper to buy another engine than to rebuild. Cylinder 6 was cracked on the original engine.

    93. #CRYPTO BOND 007

      S2000! THATS WHY 💪💪

    94. Colin

I have a 2002 2.7L Boxster great car mine came with a hardtop, FSH from day one, & one previous owner from new. Lovely car. Used to have a 911 SC but the Boxster is much better.

    95. Go Ocean

Had a 00’ boxster s and the fucking ims bearing shat on me and destroyed my motor, Was fun to drive while it worked🥴

    96. Malcolm Baker

Do you know how much it was to fix the bits he bought up?

    97. Ed Silvester

Still prefer the S2000 . Every time. Just more interesting. That engine. That gear box.

      1. Daniel Thomas

@Ed Silvester it is one of the better built Japanese cars ,I've driven a couple and they are great cars, but the porsche is the next level imo and that flat 6 is pretty awesome I must say...doesn't rev to 9k though lol and that is fantastic either way both incredible whips cheers..😊

      2. Ed Silvester

S2000 build quality is one of its outstanding features. Remember how it kept winning maxpower satisfaction year after year? Not sure how that can ‘be doubled’ ?! Here’s the split on speed. fastestlaps.com/comparisons/9vmz2f3ohlvn

      3. Daniel Thomas

They are cool cars and I love them , but a bit slow and over priced, and my Porsche is put together twice as good any s2000...

    98. Just some guy from Russia

      How tall is Alex ?

    99. Ven100

I'd still take the 300ZX. Speaking as an owner I might be biased. The engine is superb and if turbo can make a good amount of power with little money. Still looks great, turns heads. Throw on some coilovers.

    100. Bradley Hayes

      Rocket league is the bollocks!!
